William B. Shearer

Will Shearer is a member of the firm and practices in the area of business law, both for-profit and not-for-profit. On the for-profit side, Mr. Shearer has significant expertise and experience in mergers and acquisitions, joint venture structuring, and matters related to choice of entity and corporate governance. On the not-for-profit side, Mr. Shearer has significant expertise and experience advising 501(c)(3) organizations, including initial organization, acquisition and maintenance of tax-exempt status,and compliance with state charitable laws. In addition, Mr. Shearer has served as outside general counsel for a variety of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and has broad expertise in advising clients as to a wide range of operational and strategic matters. Mr. Shearer also has significant experience advising businesses and individuals as to tax, securities, and other areas of regulatory compliance.

Mr. Shearer has eight years of experience as the Executive Director and Treasurer of Vineyard Community Center, a 501(c)(3) organization operating on an annual budget of approximately $2 million. Vineyard Community Center is affiliated with Vineyard Church of Columbus and provides a broad array of services to low-income families and individuals residing primarily in the Northeast quadrant of Columbus.

Mr. Shearer serves on the board of directors of Recreation Unlimited Farm & Fun, a 501(c)(3) organization providing year-round programs in sports, recreation and education for individuals with disabilities and health concerns, and is a founding board member and the treasurer of Vineyard Ministries International, a 501(c)(3) organization that exists for the purpose of supporting church-planting within the national community of Vineyard churches. Mr. Shearer also serves as a part-time member of the pastoral staff of Vineyard Church of Columbus.

Prior to joining Gordon Bibart, LLC in November 2015, Mr. Shearer practiced law with the Columbus, Ohio office of Dickinson Wright PLLC and previously was a partner in the Columbus, Ohio office of Baker & Hostetler LLP, where he began his law career in 1994.

Mr. Shearer graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1994, where he was a Chancellors Scholar. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Shearer spent five years working in college athletics administration at the University of Notre Dame (1988-91) and Clemson University (1986-88), where he also received a B.A. in Political Science (1986) and M.A. in English (1989). Mr. Shearer is married with three children and resides in Westerville, Ohio.
